Food Waste Composter makes Desert Operations Easy!
Nestled in the heart of the Liwa Desert, Anantara Qasr Al Sarab, a Minor Hotel brand, demonstrates that luxury and sustainability can thrive together. Through its commitment to environmental stewardship, the resort has made significant progress toward zero organic waste by incorporating the GreenGood Eco Tech composting machine into its operations.

The Challenge: Managing Food Waste in a Remote Location
The resort’s remote desert location created unique waste management challenges. Transporting food waste offsite proved both costly and environmentally unsustainable. The resort required an efficient on-site solution for handling food scraps while aligning with its sustainability goals.
The Solution: GreenGood’s Eco Tech Composting
To address this challenge, Anantara Qasr Al Sarab along with GreenGood Oklin Engineer, Romy Sebastian, installed GreenGood Eco Tech’s high-efficiency composting machine, the GG 100s, enabling the resort to:
- Process organic waste on-site within 24 hours.
- Reduce food waste volume by up to 90%, minimising landfill impact.
- Produce nutrient-rich compost for landscaping and desert greenery.

The Results: Tangible Impacts
🌱 Waste Reduction: Over 250kg of organic waste diverted from landfills daily.
🌱 Operational Efficiency: Reduced waste collection costs and improved site hygiene.
🌱 Sustainable Landscaping: Compost enriches desert-friendly vegetation, reducing chemical fertiliser use.
A Model for Sustainable Hospitality
Through GreenGood Eco Tech’s composting technology, Anantara Qasr Al Sarab demonstrates how hotels in even the most challenging environments can lead the way in sustainability.
Alongside the food waste solutions, the resort has delved into other aspects of their operations to boost their environmental initiatives.
To name a few, Anantara Qasr al Sarab has phased out the usage of plastic bottles and now only uses glass water bottles. The resort has also utilised the desert sun by implementing solar panels to provide hot water for guests and to support the resort laundry operations. To ensure the desert and sustainability take centre stage, Anantara Qasr al Sarab have introduced the ‘Ezba Cultural Center’ which showcases indigenous flora, fauna and ancient traditions.
These initiatives enhance both environmental impact and guest experiences, showing that responsible luxury is the future of hospitality.
